In 1986 Silvio San Pietro founded the publishing house Edizioni L’Archivolto, which to date has published over 200 prestigious high-quality titles sold worldwide (in 1996 the firm was rated 5th among Italian publishers for its book exports), and present in major public libraries and private collections.
Among the specialist series are New Italian Environments (XIX Compasso d’Oro) documenting the best of architecture and retail design in Italy; International Architecture & Interiors, global overviews; the Zoom monographs on individual types of space and design typologies; and I Menhir pocket-books on architecture and design.
From 1987 to 1996 he created an acclaimed diary dedicated each year to an international figure of the architectural world, printed in just 500 copies and including a numbered silkscreen print (chosen in 1992 for the Felice Feliciano international award for book quality, and ranked among the top ten Italian graphic designs at the Stiftung Buchkunst of the Frankfurter Buchmesse in 1993).
Among his other publishing achievements are thematic bibliographies of new and rare books, together with special editions devoted to garden design, industrial products, and photography. Many of these have become international long-sellers.
