Conceived and published by Edizioni L’Archivolto in league with Giovanni Monzio Compagnoni, this special edition is printed with 3,333 different covers, each one relating a different fragment of the book’s contents. Commissioned by the renowned architect Adam D. Tihany, the book documents a selection of his works for Rome, and attests to his enduring passion for the Italian capital. The unorthodox formula of printing a different cover for each copy sets a new creative precedent and epitomizes the Milanese publishing house’s innovative idea of offering a narrative overview, rather than yet another compendium of the latest works in Rome by this extraordinary designer from Transylvania, one of the world’s leading architects. Created one by one in a complex printing process overseen personally by the architect Silvio San Pietro and his editorial team, the individual covers offer glimpses of the book’s contents, which documents Tihany’s realizations for the interiors of two luxury hotels in Rome’s historic city center, the Aleph and the Exedra, and illustrates some of the unique design choices for the decor, such as the wall-size enlargements of black and white photographs of Rome by Bram Tihany adorning each bedroom suite at the Aleph, the ingenious contributions of the food-stylist Nir Adar to the same hotel, and the memorable shots of Roman dolce vita adorning the “Tazio” drinks lounge and the “Frusta” restaurant at the Exedra, taken by the renowned paparazzo Tazio Secchiaroli. The creative interweaving of the city’s long history and Tihany’s particular approach to architecture become part and parcel of the project itself, an aspect that is brilliantly encapsulated in this book, which graphically cross-references the features of Tihany’s design by means of a set of unorthodox editorial devices that make the book something of a collector’s piece in its own right. The book will have a print-run of 333 copies for sale to the public, each one hand-numbered.
